Book Review-- Red Queen

Late last week I finished reading Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard.

From Goodreads:

This is a world divided by blood – red or silver.

The Reds are commoners, ruled by a Silver elite in possession of god-like superpowers. And to Mare Barrow, a seventeen-year-old Red girl from the poverty-stricken Stilts, it seems like nothing will ever change.

That is, until she finds herself working in the Silver Palace. Here, surrounded by the people she hates the most, Mare discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy the balance of power.

Fearful of Mare’s potential, the Silvers hide her in plain view, declaring her a long-lost Silver princess, now engaged to a Silver prince. Despite knowing that one misstep would mean her death, Mare works silently to help the Red Guard, a militant resistance group, and bring down the Silver regime.

But this is a world of betrayal and lies, and Mare has entered a dangerous dance – Reds against Silvers, prince against prince, and Mare against her own heart ...

I wasn't too sure I would like this one before I started it.  I'm not really sure why though.  But once I started, I was hooked!

I really liked Mare.  I liked that she was fiesty and even though she was living the life of a princess in the palace, she didn't succumb to their ways and still fought for her family and people.

I really torn between Maven and Cal.  I knew something fishy was going on but I couldn't quite decide what or where...or with which boy.  And I was totally shocked when I found out!  And that wasn't the only surprise..there was another one at the end that I didn't see coming!

I'm so glad this book is a series.  I cannot wait to get my hands on the next one, and there's several novellas that I need to read too!

I gave this book a rating of 4/5.

*FTC Disclosure: I traded this book with a friend.
